Honda Leads Dakar Rally

After a week of intense racing, the 2016 edition of the Dakar Rally has reached its halfway point and a well-deserved rest day.

It can be said that Honda has arrived at the halfway point with mixed emotions. The joy of seeing HRC rider Paulo Goncalves sitting atop the general classification in the bikes with a three-minute lead has been somewhat tempered by the news that Honda's other great hope, Joan Barreda, has withdrawn after enduring a broken engine, and an injured hand after a fall.

Argentine rookie, Kevin Benavides, riding for the Honda South America Rally team, continues to shine on home soil, mixing it with the world's best to occupy 5th place in the GC. American Ricky Brabec, also in his first Dakar, has ridden with poise and determination to lie a mere 38 minutes down in 12th place.
